Co-Parenting Apps (Phone Applications)
This is one of perhaps a couple entries I intend to do with respect to apps that help separated parents, co-parent, in the face of obstacles. What obstacles? Generally, obstruction on the part of one parent or the other. I’m not naming names, but moms and dads share the responsibility to raise decent, human children, and that requires a modicum of communication to get through daily events.
So what happens when communication breaks down? Luckily, I have an app for that. Let’s not get it twisted, this is not an “easy button”, but it can help, when used correctly.
I have a current client, who shall remain nameless, that uses the app Talking Parents.
Here’s the highlights: Low Cost. Easy to use. Useful in high conflict parenting.
In general, the more you’re able to communicate with the other parent, and resolve issues together, the more you’ll save in attorney fees. You’ll also save your own time using this app, as information will be stored in central location, so that you don’t have to scroll through looking for prior communications. And, if you lose your phone (read, break phone, drop in water), the communications are stored in the app.
From the website’s FAQ page:
“You will not be able to start communicating through our service until the other parent creates an account of their own. Once the other parent signs up, our service will match your account with theirs and activate them. You will receive an automatic email notification from our system when that happens.
As far as we are concerned, there is no right or wrong way to use Talking Parents. We encourage parents, lawyers, and courts to be creative and use Talking Parents however they like to fit the circumstances of each case or relationship best.
There is no registration, monthly, or yearly fee to use Talking Parents online (Standard Plan). The only necessary expense is when a user needs to obtain a copy of their record. Click here to see the cost for record purcahses. Most users only need to obtain a copy of their records when they are involved in some legal proceeding. We also provide free PDF records to victims of domestic violence who need a copy but can’t afford to purchase one.”
Give it a shot. It’s got to be better than spending money on an attorney. Save the money for your kids college.
